As an artist, Raul Keller (born 1973, lives and works in Tallinn, Estonia) is engaged in a multitude of contemporary art practices: His work focuses on site-specific sound installations, performances, improvisation, DIY productions, video and radio art as well as photography. Sound performances and radiophonic pieces with LokaalRaadio (together with Katrin Essenson, Hello Upan), among others. He is a member of the experimental-electronic performance group Eesti Elekter (together with Taavi Kerikmäe, Tõnis Leemets, Maike Lond, Heikki Tikas, Kalle Tikas), as ‘Paul Cole’ member of the formation The Great Outdoors (experimental rock), founding member of the artist collective MKDK and founder of the radio art festival Radiator (with Katrin Essenson). Exhibitions and performances in Great Britain, France, Germany, Brazil, the Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Russia, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, among others.
Raul Keller studied art education and drawing at the University of Tallinn (BA, 1999) and interactive multimedia art at the Estonian Academy of Arts (MA, 2002). He has completed several artist residencies, including at singuhr – projekte, Berlin (2014); Turner Contemporary, Margate (2007) and Colina Lab, Marseille (2006). In addition to domestic projects, Keller has also performed abroad, e.g. with the exhibitions ‘Six Drums’ (2016, SIC Galleria, Helsinki), ‘moondur/shifter’ (2014, Meinblau Projektraum, singuhr – projekte, Berlin) and ‘Notes, scribblings’ (2013, Malonijoi 6 gallery, Vilnius). Together with LokaalRaadio, he took part in the radio programme curated by Knut Aufermann and Sarah Washington at the São Paulo Biennial (2012). From 2014 to 2019, Raul Keller worked as Head of the New Media Department and Professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts. In 2015, he was awarded the Estonian Cultural Foundation’s annual prize. In 2022, he was nominated for the Wiiralt Prize, a competition for Estonian graphic artists.
